Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Haven Books mobile app and related services (the “Service”), provided by Haven Software (“we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Haven Books. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Your account

You sign in to Haven Books using Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your device and sign-in method secure. Please let us know promptly at support@havensoftware.io if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Your content

Haven Books lets you create content — including your library, reading sessions, ratings, reviews, collections, shelves, and profile details (“Your Content”).

• You own Your Content. We do not claim ownership of it.
• You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content as needed to operate the Service — including showing it to other users where you have chosen to make it visible through the app’s privacy and sharing settings.
• You are responsible for Your Content and confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not violate these Terms or any law.

4. Acceptable use

When using Haven Books, you agree not to:

• break the law, or infringe the rights of others;
• post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or abusive;
• attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours;
• interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to reverse-engineer or overload the Service;
• use the Service to send spam or to scrape or harvest data; or
• misuse the social features (friends, groups, lending, and challenges) to harass other users.

We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Third-party content and services

Haven Books displays book information (such as titles, covers, and descriptions) supplied by third-party data providers. We don’t guarantee that this information is accurate or complete. The Service also relies on third-party providers, such as Apple, to function; your use of those services may be subject to their own terms.

6. The App Store

You acquire Haven Books through the Apple App Store. You agree to comply with the applicable App Store terms. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the Service or its support; any maintenance, support, or warranty claims are between you and us, not Apple. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them.

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and how we use it.

8. Changes to the Service

We are actively developing Haven Books and may add, change, or remove features at any time. We may also suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, though we will try to give reasonable notice where we can.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a way that could harm us or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including content licenses you’ve granted, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — will survive.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any data will be preserved without loss. You are responsible for keeping your own backups, including via the in-app export feature.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Haven Software will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or US $50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Haven Software from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in the State of Washington will have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from these Terms, except where prohibited by applicable law.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
